The exam pattern for CAT 2023 consists of 66 questions. The three sections with number of questions are Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (24 Qs); Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (20 Qs) and Quantitative Ability (20 Qs).
There is no fixed pattern for CAT exam. The CAT exam pattern keeps changing every year.

Test Duration and Pattern Common Admission Test (CAT)
- Duration of the CAT examination 120 minutes .
- There will be three sections in CAT Exam:
- Section I : Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
- Section II : Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
- Section III : Quantitative Ability
- Candidates will be allotted exactly 40 minutes for answering questions in each CAT section and they will not be allowed to switch from one section to another while answering questions in a section.
- Some questions in each CAT section may not be of multiple choice types. Instead, direct answers will have to be typed on the screen.
- CAT allow use of a basic on-screen calculator for computation.

The CAT examination does not have a defined syllabus for CAT preparation. However, you can attempt the mock test to understand the CAT pattern of examination and types of questions. Check the CAT website regularly for the announcement of the mock test.
All CAT questions carry equal marks.
- For CAT questions other than MCQs, 3 marks are assigned for ‘correct answer’ and no marks for incorrect answer or no attempt.
- Each correct answer is awarded 3 marks.
- An incorrect answer fetches -1.
- No marks are given or deducted for unattempted CAT questions.
- There are no negative marks for non-MCQ type CAT questions.
